Welcome to Kindergarten

Mrs. O’Neill             Room 11

I am hopeful that this year will be a rewarding one for all of us as we work together to provide enriching experiences for our children.

The months of September and October are a time for adjustment.  The children will be working on playing together, learning the classroom rules, and staying at an activity for a certain amount of time.  Remember that play is an important part of learning.  It takes a while to become acclimated to a new school, new room, new teacher, and a new routine.  We want school to be fun and we want your child to feel safe and comfortable.

In order to make an easier kindergarten transition for the children, parents and myself, I offer the following procedures to you.

1.        Label all personal items (backpacks, lunchboxes, coats, etc.) with first and last names.

2.     I have provided a folder for each child as a means of communication.  Please be sure that you check it each night and return it to school EVERYDAY!  You may replace it with your own folder.

3.     Children will be given a daily snack break in the classroom.  They are encouraged to bring a small healthy snack.

4.     LUNCH:  Children can bring their own lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the lunchroom.  If children bring their lunch from home they can also purchase milk from the lunchroom.  TICKETS:  Tickets can be purchased by sending money in on Wednesday’s.   Lunch envelopes will be sent home in your child’s folder on Tuesday.

If your child is getting milk or lunch please put a ticket in their folder.

5.     NEVER send money to school unless it is in an envelope with your child’s name on it and what it is for.  Money will not be accepted unless it is in a marked envelope.

6.     We have a daily rest time in the afternoon.  Please provide a SMALL blanket or towel for your child to use at rest time.

7.     SUPPLIES:  See attached list.

All students will arrive through the front of the building, through the         doors closest to the library.  I will be meeting the students out there for the first week of school.  Bus students should wear their bus tags to school every day until September 15th.  Some children do cry when separated from a parent but usually stop within minutes of entering the room.

Dismissal is at 3:00.  Walkers will be dismissed through the front of the building and a teacher will walk them to your vehicle.  You can pull up into the circle in front of the building.  You may want to arrive a few minutes early.

If you need to pick up your child early you must go to the office to sign him/her out.  I will need to be notified, IN WRITING, of any changes in your child’s dismissal routine.

Please remember that our arrival and dismissal procedures are in the best interest and SAFETY of your child.

9.     If you feel the need to discuss any issue with me I am available before and after school.  Please put a note in your child’s folder to let me know of any mater you wish to discuss.  I cannot discuss issues with you during school hours or in the morning while children arrive.  I need to give my full attention to the students and our conversations are confidential.  The best way to reach me is through a note in your child’s folder.  I also have email, which I check daily.  You can reach me though email at O'[email protected].

10. You can also check out our classroom web site by logging on to the Stratford Public School home page at and click on Chapel Street School then Faculty and you will find my name.  Click on Oneill and you will come to our classroom web page.

I hope this will answer some of the questions you might have.  Please keep this notice to refer to during the school year.

Thank you for your cooperation!!
